FACT SHEET

STAKEHOLDERS INVOLVED IN THE SECTORAL PLAN PROCE- DURE

A variety of stakeholders are involved in the disposal of radioac- tive waste. The duties of the authorities and the producers of radioactive waste are clearly divided. Those responsible for the disposal of radioactive waste from their facilities must dispose of it safely at their own cost. For this purpose they established the National Cooperative for the Disposal of Radioactive Waste (Na- gra). The federal government is responsible for specifying the

legal framework and is the supervisory and the licensing author- ity. The Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) is the authority responsible for implementing the sectoral plan procedure and is supported by various other authorities and stakeholders. The terms and abbreviations used in the sectoral plan are defined in the document entitled «Glossar radioaktive Abfälle» (in German only). The various bodies (committees, commissions, etc.) are de- scribed in the document entitled «Aufgaben und Mitglieder des SGT» (in German only).
