An investigation ofa specimen ofthe Caribbean spongeAplysina insularisresulted in the isolation offourteen bromoisoxazoline alkaloids (1Ð14), ofwhich 14-oxo-aerophobin-2 (1)*

is a novel derivative. Structure elucidation ofthe compounds have been established from spectral studies and data for1are reported. Constituents2to6and11to14have not been identified sofar inAplysina insularisspecies. The presence ofthe known compounds7to9 inAplysina insularisindicates that their use for chemotaxonomical purposes is questionable.

The structure of delphinifl exine was established on the basis of 1 H, 13 C, DEPT, homonuclear 1 H COSY, NOESY, HSQC, and HMBC NMR studies. Key words: Norditerpenoid

In summary, two chemically distinct types of Aplysina sponges were discovered in this study that proved to be remarkably stable with regard to the bromoisoxazoline patterns

Sponges collected in Au- gust 2006 showed a homogenous alkaloid pattern that resembled the alkaloid patterns detected in the fi rst series of experiments (April 2006), even though

Many of the compounds found in this species, such as lycorine, tazettine, haemanthidine, are known to possess strong bio- activity.. Variations in the alkaloid

The isolated alkaloids vittatine (6), 8-O-demeth- ylmaritidine (8), haemanthamine (12), tazettine (13), 11-hydroxyvittatine (14), hamayne (15), haemanthidine (16), lycorine
