Creating virtual desktop environment with Amazon EC2
In this example we create EC2 instance with ubuntu as the operating system(This has already been explained earlier). We use remote desktop utility from a windows machine to remotely login to the ubuntu machine created.
To create virtual desktop environment follow these steps:
1) Use putty to login to ubuntu EC2 instance and run the following commands sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xrdp (This is to install remote desktop service)
sudo apt-get install lxde (This is to install light weight desktop env on ubuntu) sudo start lxdm (This is to start the light weight desktop env)
sudo passwd ubuntu (This is to set a password for the default user “ubuntu” for remote logging)
2) Login to https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2 to see your EC2 instance.
Goto Security groups and create a new rule to allow RDP to your instance.
Use the snapshot below for help.
3) On a windows PC start remote desktop client. Use your EC2 public domain name name and password set earlier to login.
