Betty wurde im Busch in der Nähe von Perentie Bore, ungefähr 30 km von der Gemeinde Mimili entfernt, geboren. Ihre Mutter war Milatjari Pumani und ihr Vater Sam Pumani (beide verstorben). Sams Land liegt in der Nähe von Watarru in den APY Lands. Bettys Großeltern mütterlicherseits waren King Everard (Nyapi) und Mantjangka Everard. Betty hat drei Brüder, Ken, Luey und Apada, und eine Schwester, Ngupulya. Sie alle leben in Mimili. Betty ist mit Litja Brown aus Mimili verheiratet. Sie haben zwei Kinder, Marina und Max.

Betty arbeitete zunächst im Gemeindeladen im Ort und anschließend als ngangkari (traditionelle Heilerin) in der Klinik von Mimili. Später war sie als Lehrerin an der Mimili Anangu School tätig. Sie hat 2007 ange- fangen, im Kunstzentrum von Mimili Maku zu malen. Bettys Werke stellen Antara dar, eine Zeremonienstätte nordwestlich der Gemeinde Mimili und das Heimatland ihrer Mutter.
