Mobile LANs & Internets

Test Examination

1. Wireless Transmission:

a) Please name and explain three multiplexing techniques used in wireless transmission systems.

b) What are the main problems of signal propagation? Why do radio waves not always follow a straight line? Why is reflection both useful and harmful?

c) What are the main benefits of a spread spectrum system? How can spreading be achieved?

2. 802.11 WLAN:

a) What are the major components and differences between Ad Hoc and Infrastructure networks? Please describe the message flow between two wireless stations in both modes.

b) Please describe and compare the three access modes in 802.11 Distributed Foundation Wireless MAC (DFWMAC).

c) How does the handover procedure work in 802.11? Please describe the individual steps. How can the handover in 802.11b be accelerated? Please describe the conceptual ideas.

3. Mobile Internet Protocol (v4 /v6):

a) Please explain the major differences in IPv4 / IPv6 header architectures? What are the main advantages of the IPv6?

b) In Mobile IPv6 headers are used to replace an agent present in Mobile IPv4. Please name this (MIPv4) agent and explain its replacement?

c) Please explain how MIPv6 manages to avoid tunneling through the Home Agent, when data is transmitted to the Mobile Node.

4. Mobile Transport:
