A FAIR FUTURE FOR WORKERS’
MOBILITY IN EUROPE!
INVITATION
On 09 May 2021 the »Conference on the Future of Europe« was launched – a wide-reaching discussion process through which citizens, social partners and civil society can contribute and discuss their ideas on the state of the European Union and its further development. In this context, the conference »A Fair Future for Workers’ Mobility in Europe« is intended to shed a light on the dark sides of the European labour market.
Labour mobility within the European Union is consistently on the rise.
Whilst the free movement of people and services works smoothly in many sectors, in practice, »problem sectors« have emerged in Germany. In meat industry,
»24-hour domestic care«, in transport and logistics and also seasonal agricultural work, workers from Eastern and Southern Europe are often subject to particularly precarious working and living conditions, covered by few or no collective agreements and, through various different practices, paid below the legal minimum wage.
The conference »A Fair Future for Workers’ Mobility in Europe« will provide a space to discuss examples of reg- ulatory deficiencies in these sectors. The discussion will include experiences from the advice services offered to workers from other EU countries amongst others by
»Fair Mobility«. In the final discussion, political actors from Germany and the EU will draw on these experiences to discuss the necessary political and regulatory responses.
Note: This is a hybrid conference. You can register for the event in the FES conference hall in presence or for the digital transmission, then a zoom link will be sent to you shortly before the event after registration.
The event will be translated simultaneously into German and English.
