Environmental Futures, Postdoc Fellow, University of Colorado

University of Colorado, Boulder, Jul 1, 2020–Jun 30, 2021 Application deadline: Jan 15, 2020

Brianne Cohen

The University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow, as part of the interdisciplinary project, “Deep Horizons: Making Visible an Unseen Spectrum of Ecological Casu- alties & Prospects.” The position connects to a recently funded year-long Andrew W. Mellon Foun- dation John E. Sawyer Seminar on the Comparative Study of Cultures.

We encourage applications from scholars and artists in any discipline within the arts and humani- ties whose research aligns with one or more of the following topics: decolonizing climate; native and indigenous communities responding to environmental change; convergence science working to improve human health, environmental sustainability, and quality of life; affect theory; animal studies; other-than-human agency and response to environmental destruction; and the role of art in responding to larger ideas of sustainability.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will carry out original research, help manage two to three art exhibits, work in collaboration with faculty, students, and visiting scholars, and participate in the year-long graduate seminar activities. They will work closely with Professor Erin Espelie, Co-Director of the NEST (Nature, Environment, Science & Technology) Studio for the Arts, and will have the opportu- nity, if so desired, to consult with the Natural Hazards Center, the Center for Native American and Indigenous Studies, and the departments of Cinema Studies & the Moving-Image Arts, Critical Media Practices, Art & Art History, and Sociology.

Appointment term: July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021. Terminal degree must be in hand at the time of the initial appointment. Remote postdocs will not be considered, given the on-campus require- ments associated with this work.

What we can offer: $55,000 plus benefits. The University of Colorado offers excellent benefits, including medical, dental, retirement, paid time off, tuition benefit and ECO Pass.

What we require: Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) or MFA in the humanities or arts and is expected to be completed by July 1, 2020.
