Potometers. Testing to see for transpiration.
we are learning:
What transpiration is and how it happens.
The different Potometers that have been used through time.
To set up fair tests to show transpiration

Water moves into the root hair cell by a process called osmosis.
Apr 1215:03
Water moves from the root hair to the xylem by a process called O
Apr 1215:07
Water flows in 1 direction, up the xylem (it also flows in the phloem, but this is 2 way).
Apr 1215:12
The water travels into the leaf via the xylem
Water moves out of the leaf by the stomata. Controlled by the guard cells.

An experiment to show the transpiration of a leaf.
Method.
1) Collect a twig, from a tree, which has more than 2 leaves on it.
2) Collect a twig with no leaves on it 3) Collect a twig with only 1 leaf on it.
4) Place each twig into a test tube 5) Fill each test tube 2/3rds full 6) Cover the water with a layer of oil.
7) Measure the height of the water and oil. Write it down in the results table.
8) Place all 3 test tubes into a test tube holder.
9) Label each test tube with your groups name in permanent marker.
Write a hypothesis tin your book, to explain what you think will happen in this experiment.
