Job description: The duties associated with this chair comprise teaching and research in the field of the History of Modern and Contemporary Art, with a special emphasis on fine and decorative arts in the Western world between circa 1750 and the present. They relate both to the study of the form, technique, content, function and reception of works of art and to the development of ideas and theories about art. In the local context, the chair is part of a network of academic institutions and museums including not only the Stedelijk Museum, the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and the Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage (ICN), but also the COBRA Museum in Amstelveen, the many galleries in and around Amsterdam, and institutions of higher education in the arts, such as the Rietveld

Academy, the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten and the Amsterdam School of the Arts (Hogeschool voor de Kunsten).
