The present volume IV of the series MONUMENTA was created in the framework of the European Year of Cultural Heritage. The publication presents recent contributions to monument conserva- tion from the German-language area and makes them accessible for the first time in English and French – two of the working lan- guages of ICOMOS.
With this publication, a total of 16 representative German-lan- guage contributions to recent debates on monument conservation, which have contributed to the formation of principles of modern heritage conservation, are made internationally accessible. In this way, the European heritage dialogue and the facilitated interna- tional communication of German basic texts on monument pro- tection and conservation are intensified.
As early as 2012 the ICOMOS national committees in Germany, Luxembourg, Austria and Switzerland established the MONUMENTA series. The aim is to promote academic exchange in matters of monument conservation for the German- speaking area and to make it internationally accessible.
