The street in the city structure (Porto, 11-13 Nov 21)

Faculty of Arts, University of Porto (Portugal), Nov 11–13, 2021 Deadline: Jun 15, 2021

Lúcia Rosas, Faculdade de Letras - Universidade do Porto Colloquium: The street in the city structure

Planned or organically grown streets are part of the design of cities, and their faces are shaped and transformed by continuous occupation over time. Some streets and axes perform roles cru- cial to the understanding of urban growth identity. They have a genesis and a development. As liv- ing organisms occupied by residents and passers-by, their faces are slowly transformed. In a simi- lar way, the functions that characterise them will develop over time.

As part of the celebrations to commemorate 500th anniversary of the opening of Rua das Flores, in the city of Porto, we propose to hold this colloquium to reflect upon/study the role of the street in the urban structure and image.
