As part of the 38th International Congress on Medieval Studies at
Kalamazoo, Michigan (USA), the UC Davis Medieval Research Consortium is sponsoring a session called "Popular Bibles: History, Image,
Translation" (description below).
Popular Bibles: History, Image, Translation
Sponsor: UC Davis Medieval Research Consortium Organizer: Jane Beal
Chair: TBA
Description: In the Middle Ages, the Bible reached lay people in many different ways: vernacular sermons, histories, and dramas;
illuminated psalters and books of hours; church windows and pictorial bibles, like the Egerton Genesis and the Biblia
pauperum, to name just a few. This session seeks papers which particularly explore aspects related to popular bibles and their use of history, image, and/or translation in order to reach lay people.
Interested scholars are invited to
submit their abstracts to Jane Beal at jbeal@ucdavis.edu.
