The "International Standing Working Group for the History of Early Childhood Education (ECE)" made it their business to develop and support research in the field of early childhood education.

The Working Group is engaged within the "International Standing Conference for the History cf Education (ISCHE)", founded in 1979.

The 4th annual conference of the ISCHE was held in Budapest (Hungary) in 1982 with the topic "The history of preschool education and its relation to the history of education": The results of this conference were published in two volumes and also partly in the two volumes of "Historia lnfantiae".

The important success of this conference made Prof. Otto Vag, Budapest to found the "Standing Working Group for the History of Early Childhood Education (ECE) within the ISCHE".

The first meeting of the ECE was in Bamberg (FRG) in 1984. lt was followed by meetings in Empoli (ltaly) and Paris (France). The following annual meetings were held in connection with the annual conferences of the ISCHE in Pecs (Hungary).

Joensuu (Finland), Oslo (Norway), Praha (Czechoslovakia), Zürich (Switzerland) and Barcelona (Spain).

The 1 Oth meeting of the ECE will be held in Sopron (Hungary) in 1993, 1 st - 3rd september, at the "Benedek Elek" Preschool Teacher Training College.

At this 1 Oth meeting we are going to present this 1ist of all the contributions to the history of early childhood, which have been discussed since the conference in Budapest.

We hope to give with this .index a summary of the accomplished werk to all members of the ECE and to create a basis for the upcoming werk of the ECE and its members.
