Vereinsnachrichten / club news – Februar / February 2018

CLARK, N.J.

Dear Members,

C

ongratulations to all the Members who were elected or re-elected to the Executive Board! We welcome our new Financial Secretary, Michael Hecht and our new Trustee, John Carroll, to the Board.

Many thanks go to the Members who came out to vote, as well as to the nominating committee.

Our 2017 year was reviewed at the annual General Meeting and the Board is very pleased to announce that we had a very successful year and are on solid ground.

As we look forward to 2018, we have many upgrades planned for the Club and many events scheduled for our members. February brings beer and wine tastings, the return of our popular Breakfast buffet, and more. Please refer to the inside pages of the Newsletter for more information on upcoming events.

The real key to the success of our Club comes from our membership. As a volunteer-driven organization, our members can be depended on to help with running the many events and maintaining the Club in good condition. We thank you and congratulate you on the success of the Club.

Many thanks for your overwhelming support at the recent fundraiser on behalf of Charles and Grace Gosda.

The fundraiser was a success and we look forward to watching the children grow up at the Club.

Remember, it’s your Club. Support it, volunteer, and enjoy it!

Mit freundlichen Grüssen, Chris Wagner

Liebe Mitglieder,

W

DEUTSCHER CLUB BLOOD DRIVE NEWS

The next Blood Drive for the Deutscher Club will be on

Saturday, March 3 - 8:00am – 2:00pm.

The Community Blood Services (CBS) will

be the collection agency in March. Besides supporting your community and the many individuals who may need blood, there is another reason for donating on March 3rd.

The CBS is offering each donor AMC movie tickets. Plan to give blood on Saturday morning, March 3rd, and going to the movie that evening.

Blood Facts:

Red Blood Cells have a shelf life of about 35 days • Every 2.5 seconds someone needs blood, a friend, a family member or maybe even you. • The

#1 reason blood donors say they give is because they “want to help others.” • 10 pints: amount of blood in the body of an average adult. • 13 tests (11 for infectious diseases) are performed on each unit of donated blood. • 17 percent of non-donors cite “never thought about it” as the main reason for not giving, while 15 % say they’re too busy.

All donors will receive a Continental breakfast or a traditional German lunch, compliments of the Deutscher Club. As al- ways, we will help make your visit comfort- able and as short as possible. This is your blood drive; pass the word to friends and family that your Deutscher Club is holding another successful blood drive. Please mark your calendars.

Respectfully Submitted Roswitha & Mike Burkert

Party Time!

Have your bridal or baby showers, birthday and anniversary parties, graduations, even weddings at our Club. Contact our manager, Ewald, at Born in Bonn in 1770 into a family of

musicians, Ludwig van Beethoven was a pianist and composer of extraordinary talent who capped the end of Classical music and ushered in the Romantic musical sound of the 19th century.

Beethoven’s talent for piano was soon recognized, and he had his first public performance at the age of eight. By 1787, Ludwig was employed as a court musician in his hometown. Five years later he moved to Vienna, studied with Hayden, became a known virtuoso pianist, and wrote his own piano compositions. As Beethoven became progressively deaf,

he turned his talent toward

composing music. Long walks in the countryside provided inspiration for musical ideas. Beethoven became a prolific composer of 9 symphonies, 1 opera, 31 orchestral works, 77 choral works, 101 instrumental works, 92 chamber pieces and 87 songs. Widely considered the greatest composer of all time, Ludwig van Beethoven’s beautiful and compelling music has had a lasting influence on Western composers through the ages.
