FURNITURE HISTORY SOCIETY ONLINE RESEARCH SEMINAR
The Furniture History Society invites submissions from PhD students, post-doctorates and early career museum scholars for a symposium dedicated to the history of furniture and interiors in Bri- tain, Europe and the United States. This sixth Research Seminar for emerging scholars will take place on 27 November 2021 and follows previous academic events at the Wallace Collection, the Frick Collection and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The symposium aims to present current research by emerging scholars and provides an exceptio- nal opportunity for them to present their research and ideas with curators, conservators, furniture makers and other members of the Furniture History Society while also contributing to the develop- ment of new research in the fields of furniture history, decorative arts and historic interiors. This year we are particularly interested in exploring the materiality of furniture, to consider the trade and the use of materials, experimentation and new recipes or new techniques. We also welcome papers that consider the significance of how materials might be appropriated for particular sett- ings and how they might have fitted into the context in which they were displayed.
Applicants are requested to send a current CV and a 300-word abstract outlining the topic of a 20- minute paper to grants@furniturehistorysociety.org by 1 July 2021.
For more information, contact Jill Bace, Grants Secretary, at the email address above.
