Abstract
Phosphorus (P) is the second essential nutrient for plant growth but can become an ecological and economical concern in case of over- fertilization. Soil P dynamic is influenced by many parameters like soil physical-chemical properties and farming practices. A better understanding of the factors controlling its distribution and availability is required to achieve best P crops management.
The objectives of this paper were to (i) investigate the relationship between soil properties and isotopically exchangeable P (Pr), the main source of P for most crops, and propose statistical models describing kinetic parameters (R/r1min & n) as a function of CP (concentration of water soluble P) and other soil properties, (ii) asses exchangeability of P extracted by chemical extractions that are routinely monitored by Swiss agricultural services [CO2 saturated water (P-CO2), ammonium acetate EDTA (P-AAE) and sodium bicarbonate (P-NaHCO3)]
compared to exchangeability of P extracted by water (P-H2O), and (iii) investigate at regional scale (canton of Fribourg, FRIBO soil network) the spatial distribution of different indicators characterizing P availability as well as spatial relationships with factors such as land use, soil properties and relief using geostatistical methods for improving predictions and mapping of soil P availability.
Biography
Dr. Sokrat Sinaj is the responsible for the research in plant nutrition at the Agriculture Research Station Agroscope-ACW in Switzerland since September 2007. Dr. Sinaj was born on November 10, 1956 in Vlora, Albania. He studied agriculture at the Department of Agriculture of the National Institute of Agriculture in Tirana, Albania. After competing his PhD thesis at the Department of Agriculture and Food Science of the National Polytechnic Institute of Lorraine in Nancy, France (ENSAIA-INPL), he spent two years as post-doctorate fellow at the Scientific National Centre of Research, Centre of the Biologic Pedology in Nancy, France. He became then Senior scientist in the Group of Plant Nutrition of Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland (ETHZ) for 12 years before joining the Agroscope-ACW on September 2007. He has published more than 50 articles in international scientific journals.
