Faculty Architecture and Urban Planning Professorship (W3) “Architectural History”

INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTURAL HISTORY (IFAG) | APRIL 1, 2023

We are looking for an outstanding, internationally recognized personality who will be able to com- prehensively present the history of architecture and urban planning in research and teaching.

The successful candidate is expected to focus their research on the general history of architec- ture and urban planning in its local, regional, and global contexts. Other possible topics of the pro- fessorship include building research as the basis for “building redevelopment / design and con- struction in existing contexts” as well as the preservation of historical buildings and the history of landscape architecture.

In teaching, the professorship is intended to present the history of architecture in its entirety to students of architecture and urban planning in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs. In addition to teaching historical concepts and artifacts, the professorship’s responsibilities include addressing systematic aspects of design.

In research and teaching, interdisciplinary cooperation within the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning is expected. Furthermore, cooperation of the professorship with other faculties, disciplines, and institutions is desired, especially with the Institute of Art History, the International Center for Cultural and Technological Studies (IZKT), the Stuttgart Research Center for Text Studies, and the Interchange Forum for Reflecting on Intelligent Systems (IRIS).

The professorship includes the position of Head of the Institute of Architectural History (IFAG).

In addition to an outstanding aptitude for independent academic work, which should be document- ed by excellent publications in the field of the history of architecture and urban planning, a univer- sity degree, a doctorate, and a habilitation or habilitation-equivalent achievements are required.
