a) Zeigen Sie, dass
m2t ≡(pt,e+pt,ν)2−(~pt,e+~pt,ν)2 = 2pt,ept,ν(1−cosφeν)
Elektrons her

< xv >= 0.15 , < xs >= 0.04
4. Extraction of the number of neutrino species from the primordial Helium abundance
The primordial synthesis of light elements in the early Universe (D, 3He, 4He and 7Li) is a process which is sensitive to many aspects of the physics model that describes it, such as the number of neutrino species in the theory.
The yield of the most stable element4He is determined by a competition between the expansion rate of the Universe, the rates of the weak interactions that interconvert neutrons and protons, and the rates of the nuclear reactions that build up the 4He nuclei (see script chapter 9).
a) At high temperatures (t < 1s, kT > 1 MeV), neutrons and protons can interconvert via weak interactions: n+e+ ↔ p+ ¯νe, n +νe ↔ p+e−, and n ↔ p+e−+ ¯νe. As long as the interconversion rate of neutrons and protons is faster than the expansion rate of the Universe, the neutron-to-proton ratio tracks its equilibrium value, exponentially decreasing with temperature (Boltzmann factor).
Calculate the nn/np ratio at the end of this period (use kT = 720 keV).
b) Once the interconversion rate becomes less than the expansion rate, the nn/np ratio effec- tively freezes-out(t∼1 s, kT = 720 keV), thereafter decreasing slowly due to free neutron decayn →p+e−+ ¯νe. Calculate thenn/np ratio after∼100 seconds, the time after which nucleosynthesis can start. (neutron lifetime τn = 887s)
c) The nucleosynthetic chain, whereby protons and neutrons fuse to D (np), and further to
4He (nnpp), starts as soon as deuterium becomes stable against photo-dissociation (t ∼ 3 min, kT ∼ 100 keV). Since there are less neutrons than protons, there will be nn/2
4He nuclei formed. The mass fraction of helium in the Universe can be written as YP =
mH e
mH e+mH (neglecting the other light elements). Calculate this fraction YP at the beginning of nucleosynthesis. Hint: calculate nnH eH using the previously found nn/np ratio.
d) A full calculation of the primordial helium abundance in the Standard Model yields YP = 0.246 + 0.013(Nν −3) + 0.18τn887s−887s + 0.01 ln(η/5)
where Nν is the effective number of light neutrino families, and η is the baryon-to-photon ratio in units of 10−10. Given that the observational upper bound onYP is 0.248, calculate the upper bound on Nν forη= 3. Compare this result to the LEP result from the Z width measurement.
