• This course is intended for students with an interest in science fiction and fantasy who enjoy reading and
discussing literature and films.
• Students will practise their analytical and interpretive skills as well as their abilities to present / discuss a topic in class.
The Marvel Universe, alternate realities, dangerous technologies, lightsabers, Jedis, time travel – if those words don’t make you cringe, but instead make your heart beat faster, then this might just be the course for you!
In this course, we will thoroughly analyze the topic of science-fiction and superheroes. In doing so, we will consider film/TV material (e.g.
time travel movies, the Marvel/DC movies, Star Wars, Black Mirror etc.) as well as different literary works of Sci-Fi.
In a first step, our course will include an outline of the genre itself (What is science fiction? What topics does it cover? Who are some of the most influential writers? Etc.) and then we will concentrate on various subtopics of this huge genre (superheroes, time travel, alternate realities and many more).
Students will be expected to watch films / TV series and/or read literary texts in preparation for every lesson.
