Kurzer Bericht iiber den Vortrag des Prof. Dr. Redslob
ain 2. Oct. 1852.
Prof. Redslob aas Haiaburg tbeilte einige Ansichten mit , zu denen er im Verlaufe weiterer Untersuchungen über die Handelsverbindungen der west¬
lichen Phönicier mit dem Zinn- und Bernsteinlande gelangt sei , und suclite zuerst die von ibm in seiner Abbandlung über die Lage von Tarlessus aus¬
gesprochene Annahme , dass dieser Handel sicb längs der Flusswege durch Frankreich und Spanien bewegt habe, durch Nacbweisung von Spuren von Pböniciern an diesen Flüssen selbst weiter zu begründen. Sodann ging er zu der Frage über das Bernstcinland der Alten über, und stellte die Bekannt¬
schaft derselben mit Ostpreussen in Abrede, suchte vielmehr nachzuweisen, dass das heutige Schleswig-Holstein, speciell das Schleswig'sche , für das Bernsteinland der Alten anzusehen sei , tbeils als Heimath eigenen Bernsteins, theils als Markt des etwa aus den östlichem Küstenländern dorthin geführten Bernsteins. Er fügte dem endlich eine kurze Anwendung dieser Auffassungen auf die Heise des Pytbeas von Massilien binzu, welcbc ebenfalls nur eine Landreise auf den gewohnten Handelswcgen durch Gallien nacb Südhritannien und von da längs der Nordseeküsten durch Schleswig bis oberhalb des kleinen Belts nach demjenigen Theile der Ostküste von Jütland, wo dieses am weitesten nach Osten und nach Schweden zu hervortritt, so dass Thüle (Thylc), nach welchem er die skandinavische Halbinsel das Land um Thüle nenne , eben dieser dem erwähnten Striche der jütischen Ostküstc zunächst gegenüber lie¬
gende Thcil von Schweden, also ungefähr die heutige Provinz llalland sei, wo der Name Tylöe (öc beisst nur Insel) nicht allein an einer vor Halmstad liegenden kleinen Insel, sondern aucb an mehrern nndern Punkten noch bis
auf den heutigen Tag hafte. Ehedem solle sogar der Name Tylöe Name
einer grössern Landschaft dieses Theiles von Schweden gcrtcsen seyn.

There are fifteen volumes of ancient Sahidic mannteripti in the Royal Library ut Naples, mostly of the Scriptures, which I examined, but as Ibe library was then closed for the summer, I could not have the 'privilege of copying them.

I examined the libraries at Florence, Bologna, Parma, Mitan, and Lyons, bul found no Coptic or Sahidic MSS. in them.
I waited eight days ul Turin, but was unable to obtain access tu the valuable Sahidic MSS. Professor Peyron being absent. I have sinee learned be did not return until November.
