Tips for Written Tests in Physics
As regards tests in Physics, you are allowed to use a calculator, but you are not allowed to bring notes.
Remember units.
Explain how you obtain your results - that means, include all the relevant calculations and formulas. You get points for your calculations as well as for the result. Simply stating the result will only give you very few points. Furthermore, writing down the calculations will help you to organize your thoughts.
You can get points, even though you do not solve an exercise completely. Write down any attempt to solve the exercise – for instance write down the formulas that you find relevant.
Do not get stuck in an exercise. If you cannot solve it, attempt to answer another question.
If your results seem strange, mention it. Imagine that you have calculated the distance from the Earth to the moon to be 4 cm. Well, you obviously made a mistake. If you cannot find your mistake write, say, “This answer seems nonsensical”.
