college analyses the complex intersections and connections between patriarchal and colonial discourses of power. Objects of (critical) study are symbolic practices and modes of social acting as well as texts and images that in any broader sense constitute sexual, cultural and national identities, and thus the hierarchical construction of differences.
The graduate college is open to all outstanding graduate students, who as doctoral or post-doctoral candidates would like to participate in shaping the college by developing a project pertaining to (one of) the disciplines within the college's context. The curriculum will span an interdisciplinary scale, focussing on questions related to women's and gender studies and on issues of cultural differences. Doctoral candidates will be expected to reside in the city of Trier, show regular attendance and demonstrate their readiness to take an active part in organising the study programme.
Postgraduate scholars should also develop and arrange a conference in co-operation with the other scholars. Applicants for the doctoral
scholarships should not be older than 28 years of age, and for the post- graduate scholarship, not older than 35 (time taken out for raising children will be taken into consideration). Candidates from foreign countries are especially encouraged to apply.
Applications should be submitted to Prof. Dr. Viktoria Schmidt-
