Physiological study of Polish Consonant Clusters

Manfred Past¨atter and Marianne Pouplier

ABSTRACT

The West Slavic language Polish is linguistically interesting because of its very rich inventory of possible consonant clusters in both onset and coda po- sition. In this talk we present preliminary electromagnetic articulatory (EMA) data of Polish consonant clusters in syllable initial and final position. The mo- tivation of such an analysis is that up to now little is known about the phys- iological realization of a) Polish clusters in general and b) unusual consonant sequences in particular. The temporal coordination within /ks, ps, pS, tf, mS/

and their reversed equivalents and relative to the anchor point will be presented and dicussed.
