DATAPOINT CARTRIDGE DISKS

Datapoint's cartridge disk system (9367/9368) is a random-access storage device whose compact size and reliability make it eminently well-suited for use with the Datapoint processing installations requiring medium size data storage.

The 9367/9368 system incorporates two disks, one fixed and one removable. This convenient arrangement means that the user can maintain operating software on the fixed disk without worrying about accidental removal or

misplacement, while implementing other programs or storing data on the removable disk. These two disks provide up to 5 Megabytes of storage in compact office-oriented furniture. Extensions are available which provide up to 10 Megabytes of storage. A maximum of two drives may be operated from one controller on the 9367/9368.

Advanced electronic and mechanical design produce a disk system that is exceptionally fast and reliable. Final head positioning is

implemented through an electronic system, reducing the potential for erroneous tracking.

Error detection is accomplished in the controller by means of a polynomial cyclic redundancy character check (CRCC) between the controller and the disk drive.

In the 4000 Series systems, the 9367, 9368, and 9369 Cartridge Disks are shipped in one of two physical configurations at Datapoint's option.

The first configuration contains two 2.5MB disk drives in a single console (or freestanding, as

appropriate) housing. The second configuration uses separate console and extension (or two freestanding) housings to contain the two 2.5MB drives.

Datapoint also offers cartridge disk storage in single-disk drives, (9350 series) providing 2.5 Megabytes of storage per disk. These disk systems come with a 1 K controller buffer; a 4K controller buffer is optional. The disk cartridge used is the Datapoint 80362 (or equivalent).
