Third Sunday of Easter
April 26, 2020
Dear Parishioners, Needs vs. Wants
One of the spiritual lessons I am learning from the pandemic is the difference between needs and wants. What do I truly need in life? I am coming to realize it is not that much. Here are some of the needs I have:
1. God 2. Prayer 3. Food 4. Water 5. Shelter 6. Nature 7. Books
If I have those needs I can endure this pandemic with greater ease. What are the things that I want? That list is much longer. Here are just a few.
1. To see my family and hold my family 2. Haircut
3. Going out to eat
4. Seeing and being with friends, parishioners, and family 5. To travel outside of Winneshiek county
6. To play golf
7. To be free to go wherever I want 8. To be back to normal.
Those are just some of my wants. But I can live and still be joyful without those wants. That’s why I see this pandemic as a way to spiritual wisdom. We often confuse our wants with our needs. Our needs deal with our physical and spiritual survival, our wants are those things that make life enjoyable. I can still find joy in the needs of life and that’s where the Lord is inviting us to find joy and His very presence in our life. Some food for thought.
In this bulletin you will find again all that you need for Sunday Mass. May God bless you and keep you.I miss you all. I love you.

Serenity Prayer God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it;
trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will;
that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him
forever in the next.

this Jesus; of this we are all witnesses. Exalted at the right hand of God, he received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father and poured him forth, as you see and hear.”
Responsorial Psalm: PS 16:12, 5, 78, 910, 11 R. (11a)Lord, you will show us the path of life.
Reading 2: 1 PT 1:1721
Beloved: If you invoke as Father him who judges impartially according to each one’s works, conduct yourselves with reverence during the time of your sojourning, realizing that you were ransomed from your futile conduct, handed on by your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold but with the precious blood of Christ as of a spotless
unblemished lamb. He was known before the foundation of the world but revealed in the final time for you, who through him believe in God who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
Alleluia
Gospel: LK 24:1335
That very day, the first day of the week, two of Jesus’ disciples were going to a village seven miles from Jerusalem called Emmaus, and they were conversing about all the things that had occurred. And it happened that while they were
conversing and debating, Jesus himself drew near and walked with them, but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him. He asked them, “What are you discussing as you walk along?” They stopped, looking downcast. One of them, named Cleopas, said to him in reply, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know of the things that have taken place there in these days?” And he replied to them, “What sort of things?” They said to him, “The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, how our chief priests and rulers both handed him over to a sentence of death and crucified him. But we were hoping that he would be the one to redeem Israel; and besides all this, it is now the third day since this took place. Some women from our group, however, have astounded us: they were at the tomb early in the morning and did not find his body; they came back and reported that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who announced that he was alive. Then some of those with us went to the tomb and found things just as the women had described, but him they did not see.” And he said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are! How slow of heart to believe all that the prophets spoke!Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them what referred to him in all the Scriptures. As they approached the village to which they were going, he gave the impression that he was going on farther.
But they urged him, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them. And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight. Then they said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?” So they set out at once and returned to Jerusalem where they found gathered together
Third Sunday of Easter
Opening Hymn: Hallelujah Is Our Song
What hope we have, even in the longest night, For the light will overcome. We will not fear, for we know the sun will rise.
Hallelujah is our song.
R: Hallelujah! Hallelujah! He is risen over all.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah is our song.
What peace we have, even in this wounded world Where the battle rages on. We will not fear,
for we know who heals our souls. Hallelujah is our song.
Gloria: Mass of Renewal Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to people of good will.
We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you,
we give you thanks for your great glory.
Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,
you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God the Father.
Amen.
Reading 1: ACTS 2:14, 2233
Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice, and proclaimed: “You who are Jews, indeed all of you staying in Jerusalem. Let this be known to you, and listen to my words.
You who are Israelites, hear these words. Jesus the Nazarene was a man commended to you by God with mighty deeds, wonders, and signs, which God worked through him in your midst, as you yourselves know. This man, delivered up by the set plan and foreknowledge of God, you killed, using lawless men to crucify him. But God raised him up, releasing him from the throes of death, because it was impossible for him to be held by it. For David says of him: I saw the Lord ever before me, with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed.
Therefore my heart has been glad and my tongue has exulted;
my flesh, too, will dwell in hope, because you will not abandon my soul to the netherworld, nor will you suffer your holy one to see corruption. You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence. “My brothers, one can confidently say to you about the patriarch David that he died and was buried, and his tomb is in our midst to this day. But since he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants upon his throne, he foresaw and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he abandoned to the netherworld nor did his flesh see corruption. God raised

the eleven and those with them who were saying, “The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to Simon!” Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way and how he was made known to them in the breaking of bread.
Homily
Profession of Faith
Prayers of the Faithful
Offertory: Two Were Bound For Emmaus
1. Two were bound for Emmaus, disheartened and lost;
All their hope for the future had been nailed to a cross.
Love unknown then walked beside them, Come back from the dead, and they knew he was risen in the breaking of the bread.
4. When the road makes us weary, when our labor seems but loss, when the fire of faith weakens and too high seem the cost, let the Church turn to its risen Lord, who for us bore the cross, and we’ll find our hearts burning at the sound of his voice.
Holy, Holy, Holy
Memorial Acclamation: When We Eat This Bread Amen
Our Father Lamb of God
Communion: Seed, Scattered and Sown
R: Seed, scattered and sown, wheat gathered and grown, Bread broken and shared as one, the living bread of God.
Vine, fruit of the land, wine, work of our hands, one cup that is shared by all; the living cup, the living bread of God.
1. Is not the bread we break a sharing in our Lord? Is not the cup we bless the blood of Christ outpoured?
Prayer to St. Michael
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan, and all evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
Recessional: All Creatures of Our God and King 1. All creatures of our God and King, lift up your voices, Let us sing: Alleluia! Alleluia! Bright burning sun with golden beams, soft silver moon that gently gleams, O praise him!
O praise him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
5. All you with mercy in your heart, forgiving others, take your part, O sing now! Alleluia! All you that pain and sorrow
Adoration and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament Exposition
O saving Victim, open wide The gate of heav’n to us below.
Our foes press on from every side;
Your aid supply, your strength bestow.
To your great name be endless praise, Immortal Godhead, One in Three;
Grant us, for endless length of days, In our true native land to be.
Benediction
Down in adoration falling, This great sacrament we hail;
Over ancient forms of worship Newer rites of grace prevail;
Faith will tell us Christ is present, When our human senses fail.
To the everlasting Father, And the Son who made us free, And the Spirit, God proceeding From them each eternally, Be salvation, honor, blessing, Might and endless majesty.
Priest: You have given them bread from heaven People: Having within it all sweetness
Let us pray…
