The Department of Gender Studies at Central European University (CEU) seeks to hire a full- time Assistant Professor with expertise in Gender in the Social Sciences. We are looking for a colleague with a strong theoretical grounding in gender studies, and a research agenda with a global perspective and/or a focus on the Global South, which crosscuts one or more of the following areas: women’s and gender history, transnational feminisms, postcolonial theory, (post)socialism studies, migration, critical race theory, critical environmental studies.

Duties and responsibilities:

The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to teach MA and PhD level courses in their area(s) of expertise, including our mandatory course ‘Foundations in Gender Studies I.’

The successful candidate will also show an ability to supervise a range of MA and PhD thesis projects with differing connection to the applicant’s own research agenda. Overall, we seek a congenial colleague with an active, interdisciplinary research agenda and demonstrated excellence in research and teaching in an English-language academic environment, preferably at the graduate level.

Full-time teaching is typically two or three courses per term, depending on credit distribution, plus thesis supervision.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have been awarded a Ph.D. by August 31, 2021.

Compensation

We offer a competitive yearly gross salary of 60.000 EUR, commensurate with experience as well as additional benefits (e.g. pension plan). The initial contract is for six years. Contracts are renewable and can be turned into indefinite contracts depending on outcome of review.
