Dive, temperature range [°C] Abbreviation: DTR Parameter no: 50036 Dive, time at temperature histograms summarize information on the time an animal spends at a certain temperature range over a period of six hours. The histograms are built by counting the number of temperature readings at a certain temperature range.

This parameter must be interpreted in tandem with Parameter Dive, time at temperature [50035]. Up to fourteen steps (“bins”) of a user-defined increment cover the temperature range from the lower to the upper limit of the temperature sensor of the transmitter.

Each increment border (bin) denotes the upper limit of the temperature range given by parameter Dive, Temperature range. During the six-hour period the time spent during a dive at these temperatures is being registered at 10 (SPOT5) or 1-second intervals (SPLASH) and accumulates to the fraction of the histogram period (minutes) the animal spent within that bin´s temperature range. Thus a Dive, time at temperature histogram contains the amount of time the animal spent within that bin’s range during the

histogram period. This configuration is optional for SPOT5 (12 bins) and SPLASH tags (14 bins) manufactured by Wildlife Computers.

It is imperative to read the “Further details” section of each event label prior to data retrieval and analyses. The section summarizes the hardware configuration and the user- defined settings upon deployment. For technical specifications on hard- or software configurations of the different satellite transmitters you have to consult the respective manufacturers.
